The Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo is celebrating its 27th Anniversary and is continually working on complementary and interdependent economic , environmental, civic and health enhancing initiatives to impact quality of life in Greater Buffalo.  Below are several of the current and planned “HEALTHY COMMUNITY” 2020 strategic plan initiatives , partnerships and sponsorship opportunities we are involved with facilitating or serving on in results focused support of the Institute’s mission of Creating Healthy Communities) :  

 

  •  ON-going-City of Buffalo B-Well program Initiatives –Walkability enhancement ; City wide Falls Prevention Coalition(meets montlhy _new members welcome! Healthy District Initiative–In the early stage of recruiting community residents and stake holders to work on design and implmentation (Spring 2017) The B-Well program is also an active  partner in Mayor Brown’s Pediatric Dental Health initiative ; Bufalo’s Complete Streets working group; The Near East Side West Side Task Force Health Committee; The RESPONSE TO LOVE Center neighborhood health promotion  collaborative ; The Health Science Charter School Wellness Culture development project sponsored by the Catholic Health System ; The Partners for a Livable WNY Congress for New Urbanism chapter formation ; ,  the WNY AFTER SCHOOL NETWORK  and Buffalo Public School Physical Activity and Employee Wellness Committees.

 

  •  NEW ! Northhtowns Workforce Health Initiative offering:  Organizational Assessments in support of Employee Wellness, Employer Wellness team formation, strategic planning and coaching and Program interventions including our partner IGNITE HEALTH’s biometric screening services; The IHA/Buffalo Bills HEALTHY COMMUNITY CHALLENGE ; Wellness Institute staff Weight management and health coaching for individuals;  The CDC’s Work@health training for Employers strategic management of comprhensive employee wellness initiatives , On-line certification programs for human resource professionals and employees (visit www.BWIhp.org )and seminars on Nutrition, Stress management, Happinesss at work and linkages to community and national resources to facilitate success and sustanability of any size or sector employers’ wellness program. The Institute is a member of the Ken-ton Chamber of Commerce,  Service provider to Praxair  and technical advisor to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Employee Wellness Committee and KENMORE NY ALL AMERICA CITY FINALIST Team  and Kenmore Village Improvement Society Be WELL KENMORE COMMITTEE and supporter of the Ken-ton Public School Wellness committee.                                              
  • COMING IN 2016/17 The Healthiest District Initiative -a Southtowns focused health promotion intervention to impact the health of the South Buffalo and southtowns residents.  

On the Wellness Institute 2016/17 Community wide  agenda are the ;40 milion+ Steps in 2016 physical activity initiative including mallwalks (March); Spring and Fall Be Active Erie County Park Walks and the Wellness on Wednesdya walks (summer) on the Buffalo Niagara Medical campus  and Downtown Wellness walks in May and October; upcoming (SPRING MAY 2016 HULA-HOOP A THON visit www.hoopathonBuffalo.com at Buffalo History Museum Cherry Blossom celebration) and the filming of a walkability training video to empower community organizations to improve neighborhood walkability  

(SUMMER) at the Bidwell Farmers Market and REFRESH WALK (August 13 ( 9 AM to Noon at Ellicott Creek Park   ) ; the Sept 10th GET UP GET MOVING afternoon event at Canalside, October 1st REFRESH CREATIVITY WALK at Chestnut ridge Park! , the Downtown WELLNESS ON WEDNESDAY noon time walk series; release of the E- Book Chapter (Spring 2016) on Creating Physically Active Communites Co-Authored by Buffalo’s Phil Haberstro, Dr Lynn Rivers and Mary Stottele
