Healthy Communities 2030! Partners with #BuffaloStrong

The Healthy Communities Movement began in America in 1989, and is a global movement to address community health and quality of life. The Healthy Communities Movement is a strategic and comprehensive method to improve community health because it focuses on the social, environmental, economic, and human health dimensions that contribute to a community’s health!

Social/Civic Capital

Social Capital is the networks of relationships and social supports we have based on norms of trust and reciprocity. Positive Social Capital is associated with positive health!

Economic Capital

Our economy influences our health and quality of life through (un)employment, stress, mental health, and access to healthy foods and safety!

Human Capital

Human ‘Capital’ is best measured by human health! This health is multidimensional: it includes physical, mental, social, and emotional health to support healthy and happy communities!

Environmental Capital

Our environment incorporates our air, water, and soil quality, and also focuses on our built environment like sidewalk safety, access to healthy grocery stores and quality schools!

Big Picture Media handles all of our comunications, media marketing, and social media needs!

An Empowering Approach to Pain Management: Integrative Health & Healing with Theresa Oswald, MD

    October 25-27 (4-part seminar)

Persistent pain can affect all aspects of our life leading to frustration and isolation. This seminar shines a new light on pain treatment options that activate the body’s innate healing power. Drawing from modern science and the healing traditions of yoga and Ayurveda, this holistic approach of nutritional wisdom, stress mastery, positive psychology and purposeful movement can unlock your healing potential and provide lasting solutions to persistent conditions such as chronic back pain, fibromyalgia and arthritis.

In this experiential seminar, learn how the mind-body connection can help you activate your healing response and reverse habitual reactions to pain. Through lecture and gentle practice sessions, discover the knowledge and tools to experience better sleep quality, greater endurance, and increased capacity for activity, while letting go of fears related to movement. This combination of evidence-based theory and mindful movement makes the seminar invaluable for yoga teachers, massage therapists, family members and other caregivers to more effectively assist individuals experiencing various forms of chronic pain.

Theresa Oswald, MD, is a resident faculty physician of the Himalayan Institute. She is also the founder and president of Knowledge as Medicine (KnowledgeAsMedicine.com). As an integrative medicine physician with 30 years of experience, Dr. Oswald helps people improve function and reduce pain. A graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin, she completed her residency training at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Northwestern University.

She is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as in integrative medicine. Her career as a physiatrist has been spent creating and implementing new ways to help optimize her patients’ functioning in all areas of health: body, mind, and spirit. She is a staff physician at PureRejuv Wellness Center, the holistic medical clinic on the grounds of the Himalayan Institute.
